France’s Glorior Belli were introduced to me when they released their second album Manifesting The Raging Beast. This made me quite enthusiastic about this black metal outfit, and I was pretty keen on seeing them live. That never happened due to several cancellations by this band, which is actually a one man project at the moment (difficulty finding a band I guess?). And now I have their third record to review, Meet Us At The Southern Sign. Well I’ll meet you, if you show up that is!

The doom gloom in the black metal sound of Glorior Belli is basically why I like them so much. Slow, dragging rhythms with a spacey blackened atmosphere and haunted, despairing vocals are what this record is made of once more. Of course there are still some fast blast beat parts, but this never gets in the way of the general atmosphere. The production has only slightly increased, giving the overall record a bit more of a clear sound. Other than that they operate with the same formula as they did before. Perhaps a bit too much even, for there aren’t many new things added to their mix.

 

Again Glorior Belli please me with another quality release, yet I still have to witness them playing on a stage sometime. I hope this will happen very quick, before I have to review another album by these French black/doom metalheads without seeing them.
